How is EMI calculated?

EMI, or Equated Monthly Instalment, is the fixed amount you repay every month until a loan is fully paid off. It's calculated from your principal amount, the interest rate, and the loan tenure — the formula is EMI = P × r × (1+r)n / ((1+r)n − 1), where P is the principal, r is the monthly interest rate, and n is the number of monthly instalments.

A longer tenure lowers your monthly EMI but increases the total interest you pay over the life of the loan. A shorter tenure raises the EMI but reduces total interest. The calculator above runs this formula instantly as you adjust the sliders, so you can compare trade-offs before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

Is the rate shown here the rate I'll actually get?

No — the rate you enter is indicative, for estimation only. Your actual approved rate depends on your credit score, income, employer category, and the lender you choose. We compare 30+ banks and NBFCs to find the best rate for your specific profile, free of charge.

Does using this calculator affect my CIBIL score?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser and doesn't submit any application or perform a credit check, so it has zero impact on your CIBIL score — it's purely for your own planning.

Can I use this for more than one loan type?

Yes — switch the Loan Type field above to estimate EMI for home, personal, business, education, car, and mortgage loans, each with tenure ranges suited to that product.

What if my EMI looks too high for my income?

Try a longer tenure or a lower loan amount to see how the EMI changes. If you're still unsure what you can comfortably afford, our advisors can review your income and suggest the right loan size — free consultation, no obligation.
